Who are you, and who else work with you in the "Evil Design" artist collective.
I am MCA, I started Evil Design in the early 90’s. I do all of the drawings and most of the designs for the Evil Design T-Shirt line and stickers. I have also done some illustration work for people that I have respect artistically for, such as Kid606, Titan & Weezer. I hope for Evil Design to grow more in this direction in the future.
There are people who have joined in to help with the cause along the way. I tend to describe it as the Wu-Tang style of collaboration, we all have our own solo tours to do, but when we gather as one – watch out! Carmine, an Italian designer, was the first to team up with me. We have produced two major T-shirts by him as well as a handful of limited edition pieces. Hopefully he will have more for us in early 2003. The next line of shirts we have coming out for late 2002 are by Sumo Santos, an interesting designer who has recently become fascinated with female vampires and his line will reflect this. Then there is Godzeero,  a friend who helped out early on and is still involved, but has started to expand his own firm, Godzeero Graphiccs. He just did all the imagery for KEEN mehk-kee D>J’s debut record and tour shirts, be on the lookout for that, I think it’s release has been pushed back to Nov.’02. We are also trying to get into video and our man Ronnie Hiromi will be heading up that venture.  There will be some mpegs of his (live concert footage he has been working on) posted on the evil design site soon. He also does great design and maybe we can talk him into unleashing some more on the public. Last but not least is J.J. The Damaga, she is an all around powerhouse who keeps everyone in order. She will be releasing her Damaga Toy line with us in the coming year. The details are highly secured and under wraps, but believe me, it will be sick.

Are your drawings somehow connected with childhood memories?

Most of my drawings are a combination of actual childhood memories and then twists on those memories. Kind of a mix of how I was and how I wish I would have been more like.

What artist would you mostly appreciate to work with?  (could also be a dead/old/unknown one...)

One who is no longer with us would be James Brown (the artist, not the musician). He was never internationally know, but he had a small and devoted following in an east coast whaling city. He was my main inspiration to begin drawing and creating images. It would be a great thing to collaborate with him and learn more from him.
One who is still with us would be EYE (the artist and the musician). I have been a big Boredoms fan for awhile now and I always enjoyed the graphics that accompanied the music, which were mainly done by EYE. I actually did a drawing of him and lucky enough a friend passed on his home address, so of course I sent it out with a ton of stickers. A year or so later I met EYE on the street and even though our communication wasn’t the best, he remembered the drawing and told me he liked it, which meant a lot. I think he’d be a great person to collaborate with.

The aim of design is to............... ?

I think the most basic aim of design is just to create cool images. I always liked the idea of looking at a drawing and realizing that it would not exist if you hadn’t sat down with a pen and paper at that exact moment in time and done it. It seems obvious, but for me the truth is that if I started to work on something 10 minutes earlier or later I would have a totally different outcome. It just makes the really good drawings or designs seem that much better because with the right timing you were able to capture them.

plus one question you always wanted to get asked, but no stupid journalist ever did....

Not sure of the exact question to go with this, but I’d like to give thanks to Mr. Paul Reubens for being the inspiration for all of this.
